Phenix Conducts Evaluation Visits to Farms to Assess Occupational Safety and Health Standards

The Phenix Center for Economic and Informatics Studies carried out field evaluation visits to several farms in the governorates of Irbid, Balqa, and Madaba, with the aim of reviewing the occupational safety and health standards applied there.

Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the General Union of Workers in Agriculture and Food Industries, the Independent Union of Agricultural Workers, as well as a number of associations and organizations concerned with this field, participated in the visits.

These visits were based on the Code of Conduct previously developed by the Phenix Center regarding decent working conditions in Jordan’s agricultural sector. The Code was the subject of multiple meetings with key stakeholders, including experts and members of the steering and community committees of the “Grow Economy” project.

The visits also come as a continuation of the awareness sessions previously conducted by the Center for workers and employers in the agricultural sector on decent work standards.

During the visits, awareness brochures on occupational safety and health standards were distributed to farm owners and workers, with the aim of raising their awareness of the importance of applying these standards.

At the conclusion of the visits, the Phenix Center will provide protective equipment to the targeted farms, in support of building their capacities and enabling them to implement occupational safety and health standards.
