Phenix Center concludes a training program for farm owners on improving working conditions in the agricultural sector

The Phenix Center for Economic and Information Studies concluded a training program for small and medium-sized agricultural holders on enhancing working conditions in the agricultural sector as part of the Empowering Work Pathways for Agricultural Workers in Jordan project.

The training, which lasted for six consecutive days, aimed to raise awareness of decent work standards and the impact of applying these standards on the productivity of small and medium-sized agricultural holders in the Jordanian agricultural sector.

The training aimed to organize the agricultural sector by addressing and alleviating the economic barriers faced by agricultural employers, to improve agricultural production in small and medium-sized holdings, and to promote dialogue between workers and employers in the agricultural sector, enabling them to defend their rights and needs.

The training reviewed the rights of employers and workers under the labor and social security laws, in addition to the agricultural workers’ system, in terms of wages, working hours, labor contracts, occupational safety and health conditions, social protections, and other rights.

The training also reviewed the effects of providing a decent work environment on the quality of work of agricultural holdings, such as increasing productivity, labor retention, positive reputation, reducing labor disputes and conflicts, and sustainability.

The training also addressed the effects of a decent work environment on crops, such as timely and efficient harvesting and minimizing pollution and crop losses.

The training was attended by 150 participants from small and medium-sized agricultural holdings in the governorates of (Irbid, Mafraq, and Zarqa).
